Post Purpose Driven Life - Chapter 1 Challenges.
Day 1

1) Job 12:10 TEV: Adds to NIV or KJV

2) Rom 8:6 MSG:
MSG: obsession w/self, dead end, attention to God, Spacious, Free Life
NIV: Mind of sinful man = death, mind controlled by the Spirit, Life & Peace
KJV: Carnally minded = death, Spiritually minded = life & peace

3) Mat 16:25 MSG:
MSG: Self help is no help, sacrifice is the way to finding your true self
NIV: Whoever wants to save his life will lose it (= death), whoever loses his life for me will find it (= abundant life & eternal life)
Does abundant life and eternal life in Christ = finding your true self? Or should it be losing "self" and finding Christ living through me?
Referring back to Matthew 6:25, not worrying about life or what to eat, drink or wear would make room for a spirit led life, which lived in proper submission, would allow God to use me whatever purpose He desires.
KJV: Whosoever will lose his life for my sake. What is "for my sake"? Living a Spirit filled, Spirit led life?
If so, I will find Christ living through me which negates the need to find my true self. The true desire should be to completely die to self with all it's goals and desires and to allow the Spirit to instill His desires and then I should follow His leading in accomplishing His work.

4) Not a Bible verse.

5) 1 Cor 2:7 MSG:
MSG: God's wisdom ... goes deep into the interior of His purposes
NIV: No, we speak of God's secret wisdom.
KJV: But we speak the wisdom of God in mystery, even the hidden wisdom
While the first part MAY say the same thing, the second part?
MSG: What God determines as the way to bring out the best in us.
NIV: A wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began
KJV: Which God ordained before the world unto our glory.
What is the subject of this chapter of 1 Corinthians? Does it refer to God bringing out our 5 purposes of life through the wisdom of God? Does it refer to the Bible being our "owner's manual" and how it has all the answers to life's questions? Perhaps 2 Timothy 3:16-17 would be a better verse for that. The context of chapter 2 of 1 Corinthians is the Spirit's power, God's wisdom in Christ crucified for our sake and that as born again followers of Christ we have the mind of Christ. God's wisdom revealed to us as we are led by the Spirit. Is this to bring out our best and find our purpose or to allow His best to operate through us? This chapter talks about us receiving God's wisdom, through the Spirit, to understand what we have received from God in Christ.

6) Eph 1:11 MSG: It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.
While the first line may be true, I don't exactly see it in the KJV or NIV. The rest of the verse may also be a true statement, however, the following three points he draws appear to follow the Calvinistic lines of predestination. If the Calvinistic view of predestination is adopted, does it really matter if we discover our self-purpose?
Paul is writing to "the Saints in Ephesus", the believers. So talking about the predestination of a believer, one submitted to the leading of the Spirit, is quite different than predestination concerning salvation. The only choice we need to make, quite simply, is whether we wil or will not submit to God and the Spirit led life.

7) Not a Bible verse.

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." John 14:6 That doesn't leave much wiggle room. Yet, we continue to try to get right with God on our own terms rather than submit to Jesus Christ.
