Who am I dependent upon?
My Spouse? My children? My employer? MYSELF? Another person? Nobody?
Any answer other than GOD is wrong!
For example, in their youth, my girls were dependent upon me. Now in their twenties, they are not. Who are they dependent upon now? All the same choices apply, but there is still only one answer that would be satisfactory. GOD. In the course of raising them to adulthood, they learned many things including how to think for themselves and to hopefully make proper decisions. This does not absolve me from my failure to teach them to transfer their dependence on me to dependence on God. They needed to learn to depend on God rather than upon themselves or any of the other choices that can be substituted for God. This is a perfect example of the sins of the father being passed on to the next generation. Don't be confused that I am talking about salvation or living a good life. I am talking about learning to truly trust and depend upon God. Now they will need to learn it the hard way. They will need to learn through hard times of their own that they need to solely depend upon God. And it's also not to say that they would have avoided hard times and difficulties, but it would be nice that they were learning other lessons with that little head start, or even refining that trust and building their faith.
I have been chosen by God to do one thing. It is the same thing that others were called to do. Others such as Adam, Noah, Moses, Jonah, Gideon, the Apostles and any other believer. I am called to be obedient. One step at a time, to walk in obedience. My love for God is reflected in my obedience. Did Adam create anything? Did Noah save his family and the animals? Did Moses deliver the Israelites? Everyone is called to be obedient to God one step at a time. Moses was called to go tell the Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. He was not told about the plagues to come. He was not told about the wandering in the wilderness. He was not told about the adequate supply of food and water. He was not told about the law that he would deliver. It was all one step at a time. And so it is with me, with us. One step at a time.
Brokenness, obedience and dependence upon God is what allows Him to work through my life to accomplish great things for the Kingdom.
Pride, disobedience and self reliance does not allow me to be readily used by God.

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." John 14:6 That doesn't leave much wiggle room. Yet, we continue to try to get right with God on our own terms rather than submit to Jesus Christ.
